Livestock Market Information System (LMIS) is an innovative mechanism which the Ministry of Livestock, Forestry and Range with the support of World Bank Funded HOA DRIVE Project aims to enhance the market inclusion of pastoral and agro-pastoral agri-food producers by enabling them to access real time market information across major livestock related reference markets in Somalia. Leveraging technology, the Ministry established state of art market data repositor and dessiminator with the specific scope of collecting data on livestock sales, market volumes, and livestock types traded in selecive livestock markets in major production states of the country. The National Livestock Market Information System (LMIS) is a web-based digital platform that collects, analyzes, and disseminates real-time data on livestock market dynamics, including animal prices based on local grades and specifications as well as livestock market trends. Guided by national economic growth goals envisioned in the National Transformation Plan(2025-2029) and the Livestock Sector Development Strategy (2020-2030), the system empowers rural producers with informed decisions about local livestock trade dynamics necessary at bargains, reducing exploitations and incresing incomes. The adoption of the system promotes competitivness and enhances transparency and efficiency within the livestock markets as it provides stakeholders, such as pastoralists, traders, processors, and policymakers, with accurate and timely market information. In the remote areas where intensive livestock productions happen and where access to real time livestock market information is difficult to obtain, the system coveys this data to the commuity represenatives using bulk SMS.
